One of the most frequent questions we get asked is “which banks give out free checks?” Yes free checking is a good thing, but free checking with free checks is even better. Most of the larger, nationwide banks do not have checking accounts with this feature. But here’s a list of (mostly) smaller banks that do offer free checks when you open an account:

• BBVA – free checks only with their premium checking for $19/mo – can avoid this fee with $4000 in monthly direct deposits or maintaining a $4000 balance
• Discover Bank – completely free checking account that includes free checks – you also earn 1% cash back with debit card purchases
• CCB Financial – first box of checks is free
• Incredible Bank – must maintain balance of $10,000
• Arvest Bank – free checking with free checks for customers age 62 and over
• RBFCU – no maintenance fee, no minimum balance, and free checks
• FirstBank Virginia – first box of checks is free, must maintain a $500 monthly balance or get direct deposit of $1,000 or more in order to avoid a $7 monthly fee
• BancorpSouth – Students under 25 receive first box of checks printed at no charge – customers age 62+ also receive free checks
